While everyone was posting on facebook about their political views and concerns about Election Day, I was at home cleaning for my husband. Yes, I’m getting better at being a housewife. What really concerned me is that when I read all the facebook statuses I came to a shocking conclusion: most of my friends are Republicans? WTF When did this happen? I guess to call myself a Democrat would not really do it justice since I don’t really belong to any political party. In fact if I had to choose I would say I belong to the political group for people that really just don’t care because in the end everyone is evil so it doesn’t matter whom you vote for. Power corrupts my friends, haven’t we seen it over and over again. Poor George Washington he would be pissed to see how political parties have divided the country.
Regardless I was really shocked to read status updates of people that I never really knew were political. I guess it does make sense because no one talks politics while out drinking, in my perfect world no one talks politics ever. I still don’t understand how I became friends with all these conservatives. I did go to a super conservative college, but I never really took a stance either way. I did marry a Republican, my husband couldn’t be from a smaller perfect town, they just voted to ban alcohol, seriously that is not the American way.
It really all comes down to my heritage, in the end I think I will always fear that the white man is out there trying to get me. I confess that I did not vote yesterday, yes insert shock here. In the past when I had voted I never knew any of the issues and simply voted for whomever I thought to be more underprivileged. Let me show you some examples of my voting techniques:
A gringo man vs. a Hispanic sounding last name = always vote for the Hispanic man
A gringo man vs. a Gringo Woman = Always vote for the woman
A gringo man vs. a African American man = Always vote for the African American
A gringo man vs. a gringo man = you're screwed either way so just vote for the one that is the cutest, has the most Spanish sounding name or the Democrat.
As you can see based on my voting techniques I am one of those people that should not be voting at all. So after being ridiculed for the last two years at all the family events on my husbands side, because yes he told everyone who I voted for, I decided that if I didn’t vote no one could be mad at me. So yesterday I sat in silence cleaning my house and not knowing anything that was happening. I could probably not even tell you who was running for anything at all.
Politics are just boring to me. Who wants to sit around yelling at each other about what you think and what I think when in the end it really does not matter what either one of us thinks. Sign me up for conspiracy theories lets talk about those, did we actually land in the moon? I like to think so but you never know what the gringo man is capable of lying to you about.
I must confess I am a little bit ashamed for not caring so much about politics. I am an educated woman who used to have a career, you think I would be involved in something. But still my teaching years taught me that life sucks for those poor kids who come home to find mom or dad drunk/or high on some drug. Who is going to fix that? Who is going to fix all those pregnant teens walking down the hallways of schools not having a clue that they are doing? The world can’t be fixed with one man or woman, it’s more than that. Our education system is failing the lower classes at my last school a success story was a kid that wasn’t doing drugs and actually managed to graduate high school. A kid beat up a teacher when he was trying to break up a fight, and all my kids thought it was funny. I don’t see a politician trying to fix that.
If not they have my next vote…maybe.
